The EBEC Lyon (European BEST Engineering Competition Lyon), that will take place at the end of March, will challenge nearly a hundred engineering’s students of all specialities in two different ways.

What is it exactly?

First, the Case Study will see half of the participants, in group of four, try and solve a theoretical problem given by a company. The evaluation will be based on a presentation by the participant.

Next, the Team Design will ask the other half of the participant, still in group of four, to create a technical object, like a plane, a small car, a watch, etc. The ability of the object to perform specific task will be evaluated at the end of the fabrication period. The material, tools and explication to be used in the competition will be exclusively given by the organisers.

EBEC: From local to international

As BEST is an international students association, EBEC Lyon competition is only the first step of an international championship, created and organised by BEST and including schools of 30 European countries. The second step will be a national competition (EBEC France) that will also take place in Lyon, only a couple of weeks after the first one. After that, the winners of every national competition will meet for the last stage of the competition (EBEC).

If you want to take part in this event, registrations will take place at the big restaurant (Castor & Pollux) and at the Grillon restaurant entrance every day from 7th to 18th March at lunch.

What?

Our winter Course (“You drive me crazy, drive me to Lyon!”) has passed, and we all had a great time, full of new discoveries, new friends, new points of view and many new memories.

When?

It took place between the 16th and the 26th February, 11 intensive days. Around 27 hours of courses and company visits on the subject of transportation and intermobility. We had very nice cultural visits (museum Gadagne for the history of Lyon, City Rally, French lessons, etc).

Who?

24 participants from all Europe (wide variety of participants coming between Russia and Portugal, and between Latvia and Italy), 18 organisers from our Local BEST Group in Lyon, a total of 40 Gb of pictures!!! No wonder it was the greatest event in our history!

We’d like to thank those who made this possible, INSA de Lyon, CVA (commité de la Vie Assotiative), la Fondation INSA de Lyon, and Société Générale.

We will miss our new friends a lot, and hope to see them soon somewhere in Europe.

We are very happy to announce that for the first time in the history of BEST Lyon, our Winter Course will be also open for students at INSA. We are offering 5 places for students that are motivated by our course in Transportation and Intermobillity, dates: 16-26th February 2012. These students will attend to the classes, have all the food expenses and transportation to and from the external cultural and social activities for only 2 € per day. On top of all they will have the chance of meeting over 25 students from all over Europe, and taste the BEST spirit, the Lyon’s way! So don’t be shy, just apply! (all applications are to be done in English through the application form posted at the end of this article)

Je  vous explique mieux le principe, les séminaires technologiques se déroulent pendant 7 à 10 jours, si vous êtes sélectionnés par le groupe d’accueil auquel vous postulez il vous faudrait uniquement payer votre ticket d’aller/retour à l’endroit plus une cotisation sur place qui dépend du séminaire (entre 0 et 40 €)

Certains séminaires demandent un certain niveau mais ce n’est pas le cas pour la plupart d’entre eux (90%), je suis personnellement partie en 2ème année pour la première fois et je n’ai pas eu de problèmes en question contenu des cours.

Il faut savoir qu’il y a une forte dimension d’échange culturelle et social aussi !

En outre, vous pouvez partir avec l’accord de vos directeurs/départements en vous arrangeant avec eux par rapport au travail que vous devriez faire (soit vous avancez avant, soit vous rattrapez après, soit vous arrivez à les convaincre que c’est une opportunité de merveilles et que ça devrait compter au lieu du travail normal) dans tous les cas, si vous avez besoin d’une lettre formelle pour la présenter à vos profs ou à vos directeurs on peut vous en fournir une.

Pour faire la candidature il faut s’inscrire en best.eu.org, ils vous demanderont de remplir vite fait un compte pour que vous puissiez accéder aux informations de tous les cours proposés et à la fin de vos candidatures ils vous demanderont de nous recontacter pour valider vos comptes.

Les sélections se font sur la base des lettres de motivation (mais pas n’importe quelle lettre de motivation) ce sont des étudiants du groupe d’accueil qui vont les lire, alors il faut qu’elle soit drôle et attirante (regardez celle-ci par exemple), pour vous aider en ça BEST Lyon vous propose un atelier de lettres de motivation jeudi 8 Décembre de 13h à 15h à la MDE juste au cas où vous auriez des questions.

BEST Lyon is committed to help INSA in completing the training of engineering students and guiding them in their professional projects. True to its objectives of international exchange and openness, BEST proposes during the first three Thursdays in November, a series of conferences designed to help engineering students to give an international turn to their curriculum.

We want to thank the speakers who have dedicated their time to come and share their experiences of working abroad and gave their audience new perspectives for the future. We hope this conference will give the students some confidence to embark on this adventure.

We also thank INSA (SGM Faculty specially) who lent us the space and equipment necessary for these conferences, and has participated in our campaign.

          Indeed, the DRI was trying to organize events that allow participants of this program to discover France and Europe in an original way.
One of the action of BEST is to allows French students to go on short trips in Europe at very low costs, and to welcome in return European students to make them discover France.
Skills in organizing events for cultural discovery of France and Europe, it’s just our sort of thing

          The associations BEST Lyon and La semaine Asiatique and the DRI of INSA Lyon have worked together this summer as a happy trio, in order to make memorable these 3 weeks our new Chinese friends have spent in Lyon…
